New Year, New theme January 7th, 2011

Happy New Year loyal readers (cough). Here’s a short post to introduce Scriptic’s new (and my first) custom theme. I hope you like it. I haven’t tested it in IE6 yet – if Google are allowed to stop supporting it then so am I – but if you’re visiting in that particular browser then, for a start, you’ll be seeing some nasty PNG issues. Upgrade for god’s sake. What’s the matter with you? Other browsers, however, are tried and tested – so you shouldn’t see any issues.

There are, i’ve already noticed, some aesthetic issues with a few of my previous posts now i’ve upgraded so i’ll be going through them and sorting them out slowly over the next few weeks as well as checking that everything else looks and works as it should. If you notice anything while browsing please let me know.

The end :) bye for now!

p.s. This theme is pretty bespoke but if you want the files then just let me know.

Merry Christmas from Scriptic December 26th, 2010

Backward Santa

Hello all, a day late I know but here’s my Christmas Post. After a hellish journey involving 40 odd hours on a variety of Coaches, Trains, Cars and Boats I finally arrived in Chelm, Poland yesterday at around 5. Just in time for Christmas dinner – and after all that I didn’t even get a white Christmas – which I was under the impression I was gauranteed of when I’m practically in Siberia. Never mind.

Anyway, since I haven’t done any post worthy work of late I’ve been digging through the archives once again and found this Christmassy game which I made as an e-christmas card for an agency I was working for some years ago (hence the branding).

This is so old I havent bothered posting the source files – I have no idea what version of Flash it was built in but it’s certainly AS1 – if you want them, however, just let me know.

Anyway – once again have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Happy Birthday to me! December 11th, 2010

picture of a birthday cake and candle

Well, today, according to the birthday countdown, is Scriptic’s first birthday, and I’ve marked it with a long overdue upgrade to WordPress 3.0.3.

I’ve managed 17 glorious posts in total this year, across 24 categories – which isn’t bad I guess, more than the one a month that i’d anticipated. But there have been some slight let downs, the main one being the complete failure on my part to ever get around to building the custom template that Scriptic deserves. The good news, however, is that i’m currently in the process of remedying that – the HTML has been built and i’ve started the templating stage so hopefully in the next month, perhaps sooner, the site will be relaunched with a new look but the same high quality, hard-hitting stories about bits and pieces of code i’ve written or whatevs.

Something to look forward to then, I’ll drink to that. Cheers!

UPDATE: In case you’re wondering the new theme is now in place – you’re looking at it!

London Bathrooms logo December 7th, 2010

Here’s something a little bit different – a logo I designed for my brothers bathroom fitting service. Some time ago (presumably before the birth of Scriptic as it’s not on here) I created a website for the company but it was branded with the Landricombe and Son logo. Recently he decided he wanted a seperate logo for London bathrooms to differentiate the companies a bit more – so here it is. I’m quite pleased with it – I made those bubbles myself :)

Magnificent isn’t it? It’s certainly a huge improvement on the intermediary one which you might be priviledged enough to see, if you visit the site, before it’s binned forever when this new one goes live.

jQuery form validation plugin November 15th, 2010

So in my last post I promised something scripty and here it is – my first attempt at a jQuery plugin. Some of you might remember a previous post of mine concerning JavaScript form validation – I used this as the base to build my jQuery plugin. It does much of the same sort of validation but it’s much easier to implement, can be used on multiple forms, on the same page with different settings and has several different methods of alerting the user to validation fails. The two forms below show some of it’s features in action and you can download the files for a more in depth look.

Form 1

Form 2

The files include the plugin as well as a sample HTML form. Feel free to download and use - but if you do it would be nice if you left the credits in the JS file as they are.

This is currently version 1.0 and as I use this in my own work I'll probably be expanding the functionality and improving it over time so do watch for updates. Also if you have any functionality requests or suggestions for improvement, or if you make any improvements yourself, please let me know.
